We
offer a comprehensive and flexible training package that
focuses on developing effective therapeutic skills in therapists
so they can create an appropriate treatment alliance with
their sexual offending clients. The Training Program is
based on our research into effective therapist behaviours
and on our experience over many years in treating sexual
offenders both in prisons and in community settings. It
can be readily adapted to inpatient or outpatient settings,
and is suitable for either an open or “rolling” format (as
described in our Treatment Manual) or a closed or “fixed”
format.
Training
is offered in a variety of forms. A one-day or two-day workshop
is recommended for sites interested in providing professional
development for therapists who are already working with
sexual offenders. Workshops for this purpose should be limited
to an enrolment of approximately 50 trainees. A more extensive
five-day Training Program is also available for new or potential
therapists. At the end of the five-day Training Program
certificates are provided to trainees indicating they have
successfully completed the training and are ready to facilitate
treatment. Enrolment for the five-day program should be
limited to a maximum of 24 participants as small group work
is essential to this training. Fees are calculated according
to the number of trainers required (i.e., one trainer per
8 trainees).
